| Description: |
Dear Wilmette neighbors, We would like to let you know about a money and energy saving program being offered by Commonwealth Edison called Residential Real-Time Pricing (RRTP) using Smart Meters. This programs results in savings for 98% of participants, helps even-out electrical demand and often leads to an overall reduction of energy use a win-win for you and the environment. Basically, the program encourages consumers to shift their electrical usage to non-peak hours and charges a lower cost for that electricity. It also helps customers know exactly how much electricity they are using and when which often results in decreased usage. In addition to saving you money and helping the environment, signing up for this program at www.thewattspot.com by May 31st can help Go Green Wilmette earn a grant to help fund its education and other environmental activities. Heres a bit more information about the Smart Meter program: With this program, the price you pay varies from hour to hour based on wholesale market prices. Current ComEd billing reflects a fixed-price rate of $.07/KwH, while wholesale market prices are around $.04/KwH during much of the year. The majority of participants who participated in this program for all 12 months in 2009 experienced savings ranging from 11% to 21% on their annual electricity bill, as compared with what they would have paid with ComEd's fixed-price rate. Individual bills will vary month to month, based on weather, market conditions and your usage habits. Generally, the more you avoid using electricity when prices are high, the more you potentially could save with real-time pricing. Those with electrical bills of $40 or more per month typically experienced the greatest savings. In addition, 98% of those participating in the one year trial opted to continue with the program. A new meter would be installed at no charge at your convenience. Then, you will be charged a lease cost of $2.25/month for the meter. Savings quoted reflect the cost of the meter lease.
