NEWS FROM
GO GREEN WILMETTE
GREEN ALERT: Your input on leaf blowers is needed by noon on Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
Leaf Blower Ban: The Village of Wilmette
is considering repealing the existing summertime ban (May 15 - Oct. 1) on the use of gasoline-powered leaf blowers. The
gas-powered blowers are targeted because of their combination of noise
pollution, air pollution (as much smog as 17 cars!) and ability to stir up
dangerous particulate matter.
It's important that you let the Village know where you stand on the current
ban by noon on Wednesday, April 14th.
Here's what you can do:(Only if you have NOT already notified the Village of your opinion.)
Send a simple email with your
opinion on this issue, including your name and address (or affiliation
with Wilmette) to the Village c/o Rachael
Randolph (randolphr@wilmette.com). You
need only write "Keep the leaf-blower ban" or "Repeal the leaf blower ban." Rachael
will pass it along to the Village Board of Trustees and the Environmental Commissioners.
All such emails must be sent before noon on Wednesday, April 14. (If you miss the deadline, you may still send an email but we urge you to send it by the deadline.)
Please ask your Wilmette
friends and neighbors to submit their opinions and
comments, too (the more the better) but only if they have not already done so.
Only one response to the Village per person, please.
Attend the Village Board Meeting on April 27, 2010 at 7:30pm in the Village Hall Council Chambers. The
leaf-blower issue is on the agenda, and your presence and opinion are
important!
Thank you for taking the time to make your opinion on leaf blowers known.

Have a Greener Holiday
Going Green Matters, 2010
Tip: Change to LED holiday lights now! Still using the old holiday lights - those 1 inch or 1 1/2 inch lights in primary colors? Now is the time to trade them in for LED lights. LED's use only about 10% as much energy as the other lights. Not convinced it makes that much of a difference? Check your electric bill from last year and see how much it went up for the month. Learn more. Stay tuned for information about how to recycle rather than discard your old lights.
